At McKenzie River Doodles, every puppy participates in a structured early development program designed to build confidence, resilience, and a strong foundation for lifelong learning. Our goal is to produce exceptional family companions, therapy dog prospects, and service dog candidates.
Beginning during the neonatal period, puppies participate in Early Neurological Stimulation exercises to promote healthy neurological development, improve stress tolerance, strengthen cardiovascular function, and encourage adaptability throughout life.
Each puppy is introduced to new experiences in a positive, age-appropriate manner. We gradually expose them to a variety of surfaces, sounds, textures, objects, and environments to develop curiosity, resilience, and confidence.
By approximately 5 weeks of age, our puppies are successfully using a designated indoor potty area and are also being taken to an outdoor potty area every 2–3 hours throughout the day. This consistent routine helps establish reliable bathroom habits before they transition to their new homes.
Large crates are incorporated into the puppy play area, allowing puppies to explore and rest inside on their own. This encourages them to view the crate as a comfortable, secure space, creating a positive association that supports easier crate training after they go home.
Every puppy receives one-on-one handling each day. Gentle interaction builds trust, strengthens the human-animal bond, and prepares puppies for veterinary examinations, grooming appointments, and everyday family life.
To encourage lifelong comfort with grooming, puppies receive regular coat brushing every two days and nail trims every three to four days. Early, gentle exposure helps reduce anxiety and promotes calm, cooperative behavior during routine grooming.
Our puppies experience daily interaction with people, littermates, and carefully managed environmental enrichment. These experiences help develop appropriate social skills, emotional stability, and confidence in new situations.
The first ten weeks of life are among the most influential in a puppy's development. Through thoughtful socialization, positive reinforcement, consistent routines, and individualized attention, our puppies leave with a solid foundation that supports successful transitions into loving homes and continued training as cherished family companions, therapy dogs, or service dogs.
When you adopt from us, you’re not just bringing home a puppy—you’re gaining new family member through a trusted partner who is dedicated to your success.
