McKenzie River Doodles - Our Commitment to you

At McKenzie River Doodles, we focus on producing well-rounded puppies with exceptional temperaments, strong social skills, and a solid developmental foundation. Through intentional breeding, early socialization, neurological stimulation, confidence-building exercises, and positive reinforcement training, we strive to help each puppy reach its fullest potential as a beloved family companion, therapy dog, or future service dog.

Our mission is simple: Raise confident, intelligent, affectionate Double Doodles that enrich the lives of the families they join.

Our Early Puppy Development Program

Our goal is to provide every puppy with a strong foundation for success before joining their forever family.

Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)

Early Neurological Stimulation is a series of carefully designed exercises performed during the first weeks of life.

Benefits May Include:

  • Improved stress tolerance
  • Stronger cardiovascular development
  • Enhanced resilience
  • Better adaptability to new environments
  • Increased confidence

These exercises gently introduce puppies to mild challenges during critical developmental periods.

Early Socialization

Socialization involves introducing puppies to a wide variety of experiences during their developmental stages.

Exposure Includes:

  • Different people
  • Children
  • Household noises
  • Various surfaces
  • New environments
  • Everyday activities

Proper socialization helps reduce fear, build confidence, and create dogs that are comfortable in the world around them.

Confidence Building

Confidence-building exercises help puppies learn that new experiences are safe and rewarding.

  • Exploring obstacle courses
  • Walking on different textures
  • Climbing small objects
  • Navigating tunnels
  • Problem-solving games

Confident dogs are more adaptable, less fearful, and better equipped to handle life's challenges.

Desensitization Training

Desensitization gradually introduces puppies to sights, sounds, and experiences they may encounter throughout life.

  • Vacuum cleaners
  • Thunderstorm recordings
  • Traffic sounds
  • Doorbells
  • Grooming tools
  • Crates and kennels
  • Car rides

Reduces sensitivity and help puppies remain calm when encountering unfamiliar situations.

Counter Conditioning

Counter conditioning teaches puppies to associate potentially stressful experiences with positive outcomes.

  • Pairing nail trimming with praise
  • Pairing grooming with praise
  • Pairing crate time with rewards
  • Pairing new environments with positive experiences

This process helps create positive emotional responses and reduces the likelihood of fear-based behaviors developing later in life.

Foundational Manners

Before leaving for their new homes, puppies begin learning age-appropriate manners.

  • Following human guidance
  • Taking treats politely
  • Settling calmly
  • Appropriate play behavior
  • Introduction to leash handling

Foundational manners provide the building blocks for future obedience and advanced training.

Basic Obedience Foundations

Our puppies begin learning the concepts behind basic obedience training through positive reinforcement.

  • Name recognition
  • Recall foundations ("come")
  • Sit foundations
  • Attention and engagement
  • Marker training
  • Following a handler

These early lessons help make future training easier and more enjoyable.

Potty Training Foundations

We begin introducing puppies to age-appropriate potty routines.

  • Consistent schedules
  • Designated potty areas
  • Positive reinforcement
  • Developing good habits

Our goal is to have every puppy be fully house-trained before going home, this early training and reinforcement help families continue the process successfully.

Kennel and Crate Training Foundations

Crate training begins early to help puppies view their kennel as a safe and comfortable space.

Training Includes:

  • Positive crate experiences
  • Short periods of independent rest
  • Calm entry and exit routines
  • Reward-based crate introduction

Proper crate training supports house training, travel, safety, and lifelong confidence.  Our goal is to have every puppy be fully crate trained when they transition into their new home.
